MORBIDITY PROFILE AMOMG GERIATRIC POPULATION
The life expectancy in India at present is reported to be about 67 years as compared to 36% in 1951. As a result of it, the proportion of the elderly population in India has risen from 5.6% in 1961 to 8.5% in 2011, and it will further rise to 9% by 2016. This phase of life is very much sensitive from the point of view of geriatric morbidity. This paper attempts to identify the problems of aging people in our context. The geriatric population was defined as 60 years and above in this study. It included rural and urban elderly belonging to both genders.
