CROSS-GENERATIONS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: ANALYSIS OF CHILDREN’S EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING


Domestic violence is the use of physical, sexual, intimidating or disturbing force to terrify, threaten and have power over partner. Domestic violence is an example of offensive actions that happen over time. This ill-treatment often rises and turns into worse condition. Domestic violence has multiple consequence viz., physical injury, mental disturbance, and in brutal cases death occurs. The shocking physical, mental, and emotional consequences of domestic violence also cross generation as it also affect children. This article is based on participatory observation and case studies collected during visits at ICDS office and interaction with district Programme Officers (ICDS) Scheme or Protection Officers at Bilaspur Chhattisgarh. This paper attempts to study the effects of domestic violence on children’s emotional and psychological well-being. It also aspires to find-out the sufferings which subjugate their social interactions and hamper their academic performance. It also aspires to understand the violence against women under various explanatory approaches at individual and family level. Moreover, it tries to link domestic violence as an occurrence which violates the right of a child in the premises of domicile. Furthermore, it analyses the impact of domestic violence on child’s social interaction, social behavior and academic performance. Afterwards, it attempts to analyze and conclude the entire issue in the lens of behavioral theories.
