DIFFERENCES IN STRESS AMONG GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS STUDENTS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY


 


The present research is a cross-sectional comparative study with the aim to compare stress levels and factors associated with it on students of class 12 in private and government school in Delhi with the objective to quantify and compare four factors ( Pressure, Physical Stress, Anxiety and Frustration) contributing to stress. In this study, total 60 students (30 students of class 12 each of private and government school, aged 17 to 19 years) were included. The 12th class students were found to be suitable sample because they had to appear for the XII class Board Examination conducted by CBSE. The data was collected in January 2016. Subjects were assessed using Stress Scale, developed by Dr. Vijay Lakshmi and Dr. Shruti Narain, published by National Psychological Corporation, Agra (2013). The scale consists of 40 items in English and assesses four major dimension of stress which is: Pressure, Physical Stress, Frustration and Anxiety. Appropriate statistics such as mean, standard deviation and t test were used to compute and analyze the data. According to the findings there is significant difference between students of Private and Government school for stress. The Private School students received higher score on stress as compared to the Government School students. There is no significant difference between Pressure among Private and Government School. There is significant difference between Physical Stress, Anxiety, Frustration among Private and Government School. Thus it can be concluded that overall stress of Private School Students is more than that of Government School Students.
